Sparta Youth Baseball 8u Tournament Rules
July 12-13, 2025
Sparta, WI
We will follow the Seven Rivers Athletic Association Rules for 8u division with the additions and exceptions below. Additions and exceptions below supersede SRAA rules:

Umpire:One umpire will call the game from behind the pitcher. Coaches will cooperate and assist the umpire with difficult calls (i.e. fair/foul down the line, or tag plays where umpire is unable to get into a good position to make the call)
Game Balls:Each team provides two game balls in good condition each game - to be returned at the conclusion of the game.
Home Team:Determined by coin flip before the game with both coaches and the umpire. Home team is responsible for the official scorebook for the game.
Scoreboards:Home team is responsible for running scoreboard controllers on Diamond 2 and 3. They are hand held and simple to use and can be delegated to a parent or child in their seat. Please return to them to the umpire or the concessions stand at the end of each game. Diamond 1 controller is in the pressbox and will be run by a Sparta volunteer.
Schedule:There is extra buffer time built in between each game to ensure games can be finished without a hard stop. We may advance the game times if we are ahead of schedule and umpires are ready, so please be early to your games. Tournament director will send periodic updates to the coaches via text message to let them know if we are ahead of schedule.
Inning/Time Limit:Pool Play Games (Saturday): 6 inning games, no new inning starts after 1 hour and 20 minutes. Innings started will be completed if home team is behind after the end of regulation. Pool Play games may end in a tie.

Bracket Play Games (Sunday): 6 inning games, no new inning starts after 1 hour and 20 minutes. If tied at end of regulation, teams start with runner on 2nd base & 1 out (last out starts at 2nd base) until winner is declared.
Mercy Rule:10 run rule after 4 innings. 15 run rule after 3 innings.
Run Limits:Team may score up to 6 runs per inning. After the 6th run crosses home, the next team will be up to bat.
Courtesy Runners:Allowed at any time for pitcher and catcher.
No Walks:After the batter reaches ball 4, the following occurs:
- Batting team coach will come in to pitch the remainder of the at bat
- Coach must pitch from the 40ft pitching plate
- Strike count continues until batter strikes out or puts ball in play
- Hit by Pitch: Coach will pitch to that batter with a new count
Pitch Limits:3 innings per player per game, 6 innings per player for the tournament.
Weather Delays:Any game that is interrupted for 30 minutes due to weather delays will be considered complete if the team that is behind has been to bat at least four times. If the score is tied, fewer than four innings played, or the interruption is less than 30 minutes, play will resume from the exact point of interruption.
Ranking and Seeding:At the end of Saturday, all 9 teams will be ranked together. Top 4 teams advance to Sunday. Due to having an uneven number of teams and one team having to play a fourth pool play game, Points per Game (PPG) will be used to determine rank.

PPG = Total Points Earned / Games Played. Points are earned as follows:

Win = 3 points
Tie = 1 point
Loss = 0 points
Tie Breakers:The following tie breakers will be used in order to break any seeding ties for Sunday:

1) Head to head result
2) Highest total run differential (Total Runs Scored minus Total Runs Allowed)
3) Fewest runs allowed
4) Most runs scored
5) Coin flip
Sound Systems:No entertainment systems or walk-up music please.
